Mind Robotics names former Apple and Tesla executive Doug Field as president

Rivian spinoff Mind Robotics has appointed Doug Field as president, a significant hiring move for the electric vehicle maker's robotics unit. Field previously served as vice president of special projects at Apple, where he acted as the de facto head of Project Titan. That internal initiative aimed to build an autonomous electric car but was ultimately unsuccessful. Before his most recent role at the technology giant, Field held the position of vice president of Mac hardware engineering. He departed Apple in 2013 to join Tesla as chief vehicle engineer, a role in which he helped oversee the development of the Model 3 sedan. Field left Tesla in 2018 and subsequently returned to Apple. In 2021, Ford hired Field to lead the automaker's electric vehicle and software division.
