Tesla has set a specific timeline for allowing customers to add their own vehicles to the company's robotaxi fleet. During its third-quarter earnings call, Ashok Elluswamy, the company's VP for Autonomous Driving, stated that owners will be able to participate in the fleet in the second quarter of 2027. This deadline marks a concrete step in Elon Musk's long-standing promises regarding unsupervised autonomous driving for Tesla owners.

Elluswamy explained the technical basis for this rollout by noting that the software used for the Cybercab and the Model Y is identical. He indicated that the same software would be released as part of the V15 update, enabling the expansion of the robotaxi network to include private vehicles. The statement provides a defined endpoint to the ongoing development of the company's autonomous driving capabilities, linking consumer hardware directly to the fleet infrastructure.
