Clark County officials have launched a campaign to inform visitors that paying for street performances or photos on the Las Vegas Strip is never required. Digital messages began appearing on billboards along the Strip on Friday, Oct. 16, following a violent dispute between tourists and costumed performers. The initiative specifically targets individuals who coerce visitors for cash or falsely imply that tipping is mandatory, rather than discouraging voluntary tips, according to FOX5 Las Vegas.

The warning emerged after a confrontation involving two visitors from North Carolina and three women dressed as showgirls outside Planet Hollywood on Sept. 30. The tourists paid a $20 tip for photos, but performer Jennifer Ortiz allegedly followed them as they walked away, demanding between $60 and $180 for the images. The situation escalated into a physical altercation that left both tourists injured. Police reported that one visitor was struck more than 22 times and sustained a nearly 2-inch cut to the forehead following an alleged strike with a high-heeled boot.

Ortiz and Magdellena Romero were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Ortiz faced charges of battery and obtaining money under false pretenses involving less than $1,200, while Romero was charged with battery. Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft stated that the Strip is dependent on the state's tax base and that such behavior negatively impacts the local economy. Fox News Digital reached out to Clark County for further comment.

The new signage has drawn mixed reactions from online communities. Some residents and travelers expressed relief at the intervention, with one Reddit user noting it was time to clamp down on aggressive tactics following the recent brawl. Others described the pressure for tips as a long-standing issue, advising tourists not to engage with costumed performers to avoid uncomfortable encounters.
