Defending national champion Indiana defeated Michigan 13-6 in overtime on Saturday, securing the Hoosiers' first victory at Michigan Stadium since 1967. The result marks the Wolverines' third loss of the season and extends a difficult stretch for the program following its College Football Playoff national championship title. Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in overtime, and the Hoosiers' defense stopped Michigan on the ensuing possession to close out the game. The win prevented Indiana from suffering its first two-game losing streak in three years under coach Curt Cignetti.
Michigan started freshman Tommy Carr at quarterback, while Bryce Underwood sat out. Carr struggled to replicate his performance from the previous week, when he came off the bench to help defeat Penn State. He lost a fumble on a pitch in the first quarter and threw an interception in the second half. Sacks in the second and third quarters led to missed field goals, including a 32-yard attempt after Michigan advanced to the Indiana 1-yard line. Carr finished the game with 167 passing yards, one interception, and one fumble.
Hoover also faced difficulties until the final period, but connected on a 21-yard pass to Brock Schott on the first snap of overtime to set up his scoring run. In regulation, Michigan reached the Hoosiers' 3-yard line in the final minute when Carr was sacked for a fourth time, forcing a 26-yard field goal as time expired. CJ Carr, brother of Tommy Carr and quarterback for Notre Dame, attended the game during his team's bye week.
Indiana will host Minnesota next week, while Michigan prepares to face Rutgers. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
